The Blair County Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Society was formed in November 1923. The primary purpose of this society was to eradicate tuberculosis in the Blair County area and assist in general health problems. Our organization remains the oldest health volunteer agency in Blair County dedicated to the prevention and aid to individuals and families affected by respiratory diseases. We have recently changed our name to The Respiratory Disease Society.

Our Board of Directors consists of various business leaders in the area. Board Members attend meetings throughout the year, to be kept abreast of all situations effecting the organization. They also actively participate in all of our organization’s events.

Our organization, known primarily for its tuberculin testing, has expanded its services to face the needs of the area. These services now include:

  • Asthma Support and Education

  • Cribs for Kids

  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Support and Education/Back to Sleep

  • Emphysema, Bronchitis and Black Lung Support and Education

  • Flu Inoculation
