• Asthma Workshop – over 300 people attended our annual clinic held to provide support to those affected by Asthma. Pharmaceutical companies and area physicians were on hand to answer questions and offer assistance.
• Flu Inoculations – Over 3,000 Flu vaccinations were provided to high risk groups in Blair County, including residents 55 and over, adults with long-term heart & lung problems and Asthmatic patients.
• TB Testing – Thousands of Tuberculin (TB) tests were administered to area schools, food handlers, daycare providers and nursing home personnel, as well as the general public who require clearance for employment.
• SIDS Support & Education – Our SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) programs have served hundreds of people. We provide support for families who have been devastated by SIDS through individual and group counseling, as well as serving as the liaison for the families with the coroner and public health & law enforcement officials. We have established parent-to-parent peer contacts and support groups for SIDS families and SIDS high-risk monitored parents. We also provide educational programs for nurses, physicians, paramedics, fire and police officials, funeral directors, clergy and all interested community groups.
• Cribs for Kids – Our newest program, this is a proactive step towards the reduced risk of SIDS by helping people understand the importance of proper bedding and positioning of an infant during sleep. Since this program began in April 2000, we have helped many families by providing them with a crib and mattress to create a safe sleeping environment for their baby. Cribs for Kids has become a community effort resulting in a decrease in infant mortality over the last year. The rate of accidental suffocation, along with SIDS, has also dropped dramatically. We look forward to continuing our efforts to insure that every baby's life is protected and cherished.
